Who they are
Sanford Bishop
Incumbent: his About page says he is "serving his sixteenth term in the United States House of Representatives".3 His Issues page is stale: it still says "Congressman Bishop believes a strong federal response is required to combat the Covid-19 pandemic" and describes 2009 and 2010 laws as current.2 Scored as posted. His official House site was not scored.
Matt Day
Business owner who says "he founded Glaziers on Demand" in 2013.9 His site lists no elected office. It is a Wix site that mixes pages from other campaigns: the Home page says "for Southwest & Middle Georgia", but the Conservation page that his Local Issues page links to is about "Georgia's 1st Congressional District", and a published Senior Plan page is signed "Candidate for United States Senate , Georgia".6, 7, 8, 10 We scored the headings on the three pages in his main menu (Local Issues, National Issues, Re-Election Pledges) and the Conservation page that Local Issues links to, as posted. Plan pages listed in his sitemap but not reachable from those pages (a Senior Plan, a Farm Plan, a Revenue plan and others) were not scored.

The middle

Where they agree

  • Both want a balanced budget. Bishop's About page says he "supported a Balanced Budget Constitutional Amendment"3 Day: "Balancing the Budget is as easy, we just need to cut the size of the government back."5
  • Both back farmers. Bishop: "Congressman Bishop continues to work hard to make sure Georgia's farmers and ranchers have the opportunity to prosper", Day: "Our Nation needs more Beef Cattle and less Beef Imports."2, 4
  • Both back a strong military. Bishop: "Congressman Bishop fights to make sure our military's men and women have the best weapons, equipment, materials, and support for their families"2 Day: "America must always have the Strongest Military"5

Where they really split

  • Health care: Bishop: "He strongly supports the Affordable Care Act"2 Day's focus is drug pricing: "abolish PBM's bad business practices"6
  • Crime: Bishop supports "programs that deter youths from straying into gang and criminal activity"2 Day: "Matt wants to ERADICATE criminal cartels and drugs."5
  • Climate: Bishop supports "initiatives that promote conservation and energy efficiency, utilize alternative energy sources"2 Day: "Humans are destroying Earth. Matt fights pollutions with Farmers using Nature's Natural Process."5

What each one leaves out

  • Bishop's Issues page has ten headings. It names a policy or program on eight and spells out how on none, and it gives no numbers, costs or dates for the future. Most of its detail is votes and funding from 2009 and 2010, and it doesn't address immigration, guns or abortion.2
  • Day's pages carry twenty-nine headings. They name a policy on five and spell out how on none. Eleven of his twelve pledges say he won't seek re-election unless he sponsors the bill in his first term, but most name a goal, not a policy, and his site lists no votes, bills or elected office.4, 5, 6
